In 2009, the State of Illinois passed the Electronics Products Recycling & Refuse Act. The act includes a landfill ban on certain electronic items. The list of items to be banned from landfills includes:

Computers
Televisions
Electronic Keyboards
Videocassette recorders
Digital video disk players
Electronic mice
Digital converter boxes
Satellite receivers
Small scale servers
Computer monitors
Printers
Facsimile machines
Portable digital music players
Video game consoles
Scanners
Cable receivers
Digital video disk recorders

Please do not put any of these items in your regular weekly recycling or trash container. Many area retailers and manufacturers are happy to collect these items for free.
