What is Relay For Life?
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for cancer research and increase awareness of services available to cancer patients, their families, and our communities.
The event will be held at the O’Fallon Township High School where teams of 10 –15 people from corporations, hospitals, civic groups and families take turn in the Relay. At least one team member at a time must walk, jog or run around the track for a scheduled period of time. Each Team Captain coordinates the team schedule.
The event begins on Friday afternoon at 3:00 P.M. with the set-up of campsites and fun filled activities. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life begins at 6:00 p.m. with the Opening Ceremony and the Cancer Survivor’s Victory Lap. Teams begin walking after the Cancer Survivor’s Victory Lap and continue throughout the event. At dusk, a candlelight Luminaria Ceremony is held to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who lost the battle against cancer. This ceremony is open to the public and attendees do not have to be on a Relay team to enjoy this part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. The Luminaria Ceremony is the soul of the event.
How does the team contribute to the cause?
The teams participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life are critical to the success of the event, as they are the ones raising money for the American Cancer Society. Since this is a donation event, we are encouraging each team member to raise a minimum of $100 from donors before the event. Incentive prizes may be awarded to those teams and/or individuals raising more money. The fundraising goal for the 2013 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of O’Fallon is $93,000. We will be counting the donations before the event and at the Relay and we are confident that we will be able to raise our goal with your support!
It’s about being a community that takes up a fight!

Shiloh Cut-Off (Main Street) Reconstruction Project:
The contractor has notified this department that, weather permitting, he intends to place the asphalt binder on the section between I-64 and the North entrance to the Midwest Twisters facility on Wednesday, May 8th.
Again, weather permitting, beginning on Thursday, May 9th the section of roadway previously mentioned will be reopened to local traffic while the section of roadway between the North entrance to the Midwest Twisters facility to the center of the Market Basket entrance will be closed to all traffic so that the reconstruction process can begin on it.
The only effect that this will have on the current traffic patterns is that access to the Midwest Twisters facility will be from the South only.
Thank you.

Shiloh Public Works recycled 96 tires on April 24, 2013. This was an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency sponsored collection.

In 2009, the State of Illinois passed the Electronics Products Recycling & Refuse Act. The act includes a landfill ban on certain electronic items. The list of items to be banned from landfills includes:
Computers
Televisions
Electronic Keyboards
Videocassette recorders
Digital video disk players
Electronic mice
Digital converter boxes
Satellite receivers
Small scale servers
Computer monitors
Printers
Facsimile machines
Portable digital music players
Video game consoles

Digital video disk recorders
Please do not put any of these items in your regular weekly recycling or trash container. Many area retailers and manufacturers are happy to collect these items for free.

“REPUBLIC SERVICES CUSTOMERS - LARGE ITEM CLEAN UP”
AUGUST 26TH - AUGUST 30TH
Republic Services and the Village of Shiloh are sponsoring a “large item clean up”. This is an opportunity for residents to dispose of large items, at the curb, at no charge! The large items will be picked up on your normal trash day during the weeks of: August 26th thru 30th. You do not need to call Republic Services to have items picked up, simply have them set out at the curb by 7:00 a.m. along with your trash to ensure pickup. Please refer to the list below outlining what we can and cannot pick up:
Large items we will pickup include:
- furniture
- mattress sets
- large carpets (cut into manageable bundles no longer than 4ft)
- bulky items that don’t fit in your garbage cans
- glass portions of doors, windows, etc. NOTE: These should be broken and placed into a small box marked “glass”. Please also remove nails/staples or anything sharp that is exposed to prevent injury to you and the collector.
- Appliances can be set out with large items and will be picked up by our 3rd party vendor, Appliance Recyclers, at no charge.
Items that we cannot pickup include:
- concrete
- shingles
- construction debris
- loose trash
- yard waste
- trash in cardboard boxes
- items identified as hazardous waste (such as tires, old/lead based paint, railroad ties)
- ELECTRONIC WASTE – new this year - due to IL state law, electronics cannot be disposed of in a landfill and therefore cannot be placed at the curb for pickup. This includes televisions, computer monitors/accessories, DVD/VCR players, as well as several other items. For a complete list of banned items, and where to properly dispose of these items, contact Republic Services at 618-656-6883.
