NEWS RELEASE - Aggravated Cruelty to Animals

On Sunday, November 1st, 2020 at approximately 11:36 p.m., Shiloh Officers were dispatched to a residence in Shiloh for a report of a medical alarm activation. Upon arrival, Shiloh Officers made contact with a subject who was making spontaneous statements leading Officers to believe the subject was having a mental health crisis. The subject stated she had harmed her pet dog. Officers entered the residence and located a deceased dog that had succumbed to injuries from a stab wound. Officers secured the subject’s pet cat from her hands and observed the cat was bleeding from multiple stab wounds as well. The subject was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. The cat was transported for medical treatment as well and is expected to make a full recovery. This case was submitted to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

On Friday, November 13th, 2020, Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Nester issued a two-count warrant #20CF0159101 and #20CF015910, both for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, both Class 4 Felonies, charging Cynthia A. Berry, 62, of the 300 block of Baltes Drive in Shiloh, Illinois with the above crimes.

The warrant was reviewed by St. Clair County Judge Robert Haida who set Berry’s bond at $50,000 with 10% applying. Berry is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail for want of bond.
