NEWS RELEASE - Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon

On Thursday, September 24th, 2020 at approximately 9:28 a.m., Shiloh Officers were dispatched for an open 911 call in the 1st block of St. George Drive, Shiloh, Illinois. Upon arrival, the Officer made contact with the visibly frightened caller, who advised a male acquaintance was currently in the apartment and had a firearm on his person. The Officer located the suspect and observed a magazine protruding from the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. The Officer attempted to detain the suspect but the suspect fled on foot. While fleeing, the suspect tossed the firearm onto the ground before being apprehended after a short chase on foot. This case was submitted to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

On Friday, September 25th, 2020, Assistant State’s Attorney Melvin Kimberlin issued warrant #20CF0131901 for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon/Firearm Loaded/No Foid, a Class 4 Felony; and warrant #20CM0002767 for Resisting a Peace Officer, a Class A Misdemeanor, each charging Mario D. Cole, 18, of the 1100 block of Natalie Avenue, East St. Louis, Illinois with the above crimes.

 The warrant was reviewed by St. Clair County Judge Robert Haida who set Cole’s bond at $80,000 with 10% applying. Cole is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail for want of bond.
