NEWS RELEASE - FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

On Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at approximately 8:45 PM, Officers from the Shiloh Police Department responded to a motor vehicle traffic accident involving a pedestrian in the 1300 block of Hartman Lane.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian was walking a dog in the roadway on Hartman Lane north of Raven Oak Drive. A Kia Spectra passenger car was travelling north bound on Hartman Lane. As the vehicle came over the hillcrest located north of Raven Oak Drive and began travelling down the hill it struck the pedestrian and his dog walking in the roadway. The pedestrian, James J. Bentivoglio, 66, of Belleville, Illinois was pronounced deceased at the scene by the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office. The dog succumbed to injuries from the accident as well.
The driver of the Kia Spectra has been fully cooperative with the ongoing investigation. There is no current indication that alcohol, drugs, or cell phone usage were a factor. An investigation is currently underway with the assistance of the Metro East Crash Assistance Team that will include the results of toxicology.
